On 9th March 2020, TCC Africa partnered with the Falling Walls Foundation to host the first round of Science Communication and Engagement activities under the ‘Falling Walls Engage’ programme. The workshop we co-hosted brought together scientists, innovators, science communicators and science media partners from Kenya, Ghana, Portugal, United States, Germany and Greece.
At the end of the day participants agreed that:
– #Sciencecommunication needs to be innovative
for engagement to take place
-Attitudes are changing as there is a demand for
information from researchers and innovators #researchvisibility
-There are media partners ready to work with scientists to
disseminate their research.
-Science communication no longer competes with
politics for page space in the major media houses.
-Scientists and innovators have to be in control
of the #sciencecommunication narrative.
Falling Walls Engage is part of the Falling Walls Foundation in Germany. Falling Walls Engage is setting up international exchange hubs in various locations around the world and the first one was held in Nairobi, Kenya.
The aim of the hubs is to connect local scientific communities with international science engagement initiatives and the global Falling Walls network. Participants take part in international peer-group workshops and can learn from best-practice examples.
