Dimensions Footprint Grows With 4 New Sub-Saharan Africa Launches in Q1 2024

17 May 2024 Categories: latest news, News

We are excited to report that Dimensions, a platform enabling open access research discovery, has been successfully launched in four more countries in Sub-Saharan Africa in Q1 2024: Eswatini and Mozambique, Ethiopia, and Rwanda. This rollout was made possible through the ongoing partnership between Digital Science and TCC Africa, along with representative library consortia, granting councils, and research councils in each nation. The coordinated efforts are laser-focused on increasing the visibility and usage of Dimensions data in Sub-Saharan African countries, highlighting the importance of open access data to enhance research discovery, and promoting best practices in publishing to boost researcher profiles.

The launches in these four countries bring the total to 17 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa where Dimensions has been implemented since January 2021, joining Kenya, Ghana, Malawi, Uganda, Zambia, Sudan, Namibia, Nigeria, Lesotho, Senegal, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania.

Through Research 4 Life, Digital Science makes a non-commercial version of Dimensions  accessible in the Global South, however, TCC Africa and Digital Science have gone a further step, working with African Ministries of Education and Library Consortia in capacity strengthening – accessing and effectively using Dimensions – within the respective academic communities.

This development comes at a time of significant advancement in the growth of the open-access journal list in Dimensions and the enhancement of African journal and content coverage through strategic collaborations with stakeholders. It also encourages the use of consistent publication standards to enhance the visibility of researchers and improve the indexing of research products. The partners will proceed with their expansion across Sub-Saharan Africa, with further plans to introduce Dimensions in many more countries in the coming months.
