Train-the-trainer workshop will produce more reviewers in their own communities
African researchers keen to support the move to open science in their countries can be nominated for a free workshop to train open peer reviewers tailored to the African context.
The workshop is the product of a collaboration between preprint initiative AfricArXiv, research mentorship programme Eider Africa, open science non-profit eLife, open peer review trainer PREreview and communication training centre TCC Africa. It is receiving funding from United Kingdom based biomedical research charity Wellcome.
The training will consist of four tutored online sessions carried out in real time during April. The pilot workshop, for which nominations are sought, will accommodate 10 trainees in life sciences and medicine.
Trainees “will be encouraged and empowered to mobilise, recruit and train colleagues in their respective scholarly communities,” said a TCC Africa statement.
Nominees must be active researchers with a keen interest in new forms of peer review and be based at an African research institute or organisation. Nominations must come from the nominee’s tutor, lecturer, supervisor or group leader: self-nomination is barred.
The deadline for nominations is 28 March.
